Nothing We Can Do But Pray

We’ve recently been faced with a situation in which we have zero control. A situation where someone we love is potentially in danger and there is nothing we can do about it. Nothing we can do but pray.

We have found ourselves saying this phrase over and over and at first it felt helpless. I think many times people (like us) say it as a last resort, a “we’ve tried everything or done all we can do and now there’s nothing we can do but pray.” It’s a phrase that is used loosely and frequently to a point where I feel it may have lost it’s meaning.

There is nothing we can do but pray, and praise God for that!

Praise the Lord that we are not in control. We are thankful we have direct access to the One who created the heavens and the earth, who speaks and creation obeys, who loves us more than we could ever hope or imagine, and who works all things together for His good. How wonderful it is that we have a loving and gracious Father who leaves the 99 to go after the one. We are thankful we have the fiercest weapon of all with us at all times, and that we get to use it.

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26
